We were appointed by Trust for London and Vengrove to deliver a vibrant and dynamic space across 4 floors within their newly developed educational and creative facility in Southwark.
'The Music Box' is a unique architectural structure offering a space for living and learning - with 10 storeys of residential units above 4 floors of studio and rehearsal space.
Our works to the bottom third of this ground-breaking scheme included a cafe and basement bar, a 200 capacity auditorium, multiple recording studios and performance areas.
Due to the nature of the building's core function, coupled with the inclusion of 55 premium residential apartments above, superior acoustic engineering was fundamental to the success of the scheme. Extensive MEP services were installed from shell and core and any wall penetrations were specially designed to meet the acoustic criteria.
To ensure the avoidance of sound transfer, the design and testing of a bespoke acoustic modular system was required to create a 'room within a room' acoustic solution to all music production areas.
With sustainability at its core and a design engineered for complete acoustic separation, the college space gained a BREEAM Excellent rating and the building exceeds the Greater London Authority requirements for carbon reduction.
